Preheat air fryer by running it at 350°F (180°C) for 5 minutes.
While the air fryer preheats, make the hamburger patties. Start by combining ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in a bowl and mix well.
1 lb ground beef, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Divide the meat mixture into 4 pieces of equal size, and work each into a round ball. Place the ball on a plate or other flat surface and press down on it with a spatula to create a hamburger patty. Be gentle to get a round, even patty, or less so for a smash burger.
Brush the preheated air fryer basket with olive oil, then place as many hamburgers as can fit comfortably in the basket, and brush the tops with olive oil.
2 teaspoon olive oil
Air fry 4 minutes at 350°F (180°C), then flip and air fry 4-5 minutes, until almost cooked through (internal temperature 145°F / 65°C). Wrap in aluminium foil and rest for at least 5 minutes.
Serve in hamburger buns topped with the toppings of your choice.

Notes
This recipe has been tested in the following air fryer models (affiliate links): Philips HD9252/90 Air Fryer, Ninja DZ401 DualZone XL Air Fryer and Cosori Pro II. Cooking time can vary with your specific model. No need to refrigerate before cooking. Beef cooks better from room temperature.Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket. Cook in a single layer and make sure there's enough room around the patties for the air to circulate. If necessary, cook in batches.Use a meat thermometer. This is the best way to avoid over- or undercooking the burgers. Ground beef should be cooked to at least 160°F (71°C) before consuming, for food safety reasons. This corresponds to a well done burger.Do cook until almost done and allow the burgers to rest before serving. This reduces the risk of overcooking as the temperature will rise slowly for the final part, and will give you the juiciest burgers.Prep ahead! You can make the burgers up to 24 hours ahead of time and store the patties well covered in the fridge. Bring them out 30 minutes before cooking to allow them to come to room temperature.
