Ingredient notes
- Ground beef can be swapped for 50/50 ground beef an ground pork, or swap for ground turkey or ground chicken to make turkey burgers or chicken burgers
- Make sure the beef has enough fat - 20% fat is perfect, and minimizes the risk of the burger patties drying out
- Seasoning can be adjusted to your liking - add extras or change the amounts
- Olive oil is optional, but I recommend adding it to avoid them drying out
How to cook Hamburgers in Air Fryer
- Combine all ingredients for the burgers and mix well
- Divide into 4 parts and create hamburger patties
- Place in a pre heated air fryer basket and brush with oil both underneath and on top
- Air fry 4 minutes, then flip and air fry 4-5 minutes until almost cooked through. Rest 5 minutes wrapped in aluminium foil, then serve.
Tips & tricks
- Preheat the air fryer for best results
- No need to refrigerate before cooking - beef cooks better from room temperature
- Do allow the burgers to rest to reach the desired cook point, to avoid them drying out
- Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket - cook in a single layer and make sure there's room for the air to circulate. If necessary, cook them in batches.
- Use a meat thermometer to make sure the hamburgers are cooked through
- Cook time can vary with different air fryers, make sure the patties are cooked through after resting
- Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days
- Reheat leftovers in the air fryer, air fry in 1-2 minute increments at 350°F (180°C)
Recipe FAQ
For more answers to your Air Fryer questions, check out my extensive Air Fryer FAQ.
I recommend flipping the burgers once to ensure they cook evenly, and to get a nice sear on all sides.
The best way to keep burgers flat is to press your thumb into the middle of each patty before cooking. This way the middle doesn't swell up and become thicker than the sides.
While many people enjoy their burgers less than well done, this is actually not a good idea from a food safety stand point. The USDA recommends that ground beef, pork and lamb should always be cooked to at least 160°F (71°C) before consuming, which is the same as cooking it well done.

Air Fryer Hamburgers
Print RateIngredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 teaspoon olive oil optional
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer by running it at 350°F (180°C) for 5 minutes.

- Divide the meat mixture into 4 pieces of equal size, and work each into a round ball. Place the ball on a plate or other flat surface and press down on it with a spatula to create a hamburger patty. Be gentle to get a round, even patty, or less so for a smash burger.
- Brush the preheated air fryer basket with olive oil, then place as many hamburgers as can fit comfortably in the basket, and brush the tops with olive oil.2 teaspoon olive oil
- Air fry 4 minutes at 350°F (180°C), then flip and air fry 4-5 minutes, until almost cooked through (internal temperature 145°F / 65°C). Wrap in aluminium foil and rest for at least 5 minutes.
- Serve in hamburger buns topped with lettuce and slices of cheeddar cheese, tomato and onion and a dash of ketchup and mustard - or as they are with the sides of your choice.
