I don’t know about you, but I feel like there’s always so much alcohol around the Holidays. First we have the Holiday parties, then actual Christmas, and then, just as you’re starting to feel all set for a healthy January, around comes New Year’s Eve. And don’t get me wrong, I love my glass of wine and wouldn’t want to go through December without my warm Glögg (and no, the non-alcoholic variety just isn’t the same). I love a good Champagne cocktail and lo and behold I’ve even started enjoying gin cocktails (I blame/thank the Cranberry Champagne Cocktail). But often, when it comes to cocktails and punch, I I’d just as well have one without the alcohol.

The problem though, for me, is that I don’t like sweet cocktails. That’s kind of the worst thing I could imagine. I’d rather just have water. But most of the time non-alcoholic cocktails are just sooo sweet. Like someone just mixed all the sodas and called it a cocktail. Nah, that’s not for me.

So, for this non-alcoholic Christmas Punch I knew I wanted to go a bit lighter on the sweetness. I also knew I wanted it to feel like an all-around grown-up cocktail, not a kids’ punch. I mean, if you ask for a non-alcoholic option – would you rather be served the same soda as the kids or a grown-up cocktail, just without the alcohol? I know what I prefer!

Now there is some sweetness to this Sober Santa Christmas Punch. Both the cranberry juice and the grapefruit juice have a lot of sweetness to them. But there are also two components to counteract it: the bitterness of the grapefruit juice, and the finishing touch – a salted rim. The salted rim also makes it look so much more cocktail-y, don’t you think? So even though it’s basically only a mix of two juices, it looks and tastes like something you’d order at a bar.

In summary, I’m really really excited to bring you this mocktail today. It’s so delicious and perfect to serve in a punch bowl to a group of people – just prep the salted rim on the glasses beforehand and let everyone serve themselves. It’s for sure a new go-to non-alcoholic drink for me, and I will definitely be drinking it well past the holidays.

And you know what? Since it’s really just juice, it’s 100% breakfast approved. Did I hear Christmas morning treat??

Not quite what you were looking for? Well good thing I have a few other Holiday-appropriate cocktails for you!
