What you need to make it
Ingredient notes & substitutions
- Fresh mint leaves - only use the leaves, as the stem can be a bit bitter
- Lime - only fresh lime will do here
- Non-alcoholic ginger beer - use Ginger Ale instead for a sweeter and less spicy version
How to make it
- Place mint leves and lime wedges in a glass - squeeze the lime wedges a bit while adding them to get some of the juice out from the start
- Muddle until you've gotten most of the juice out of the limes
- Add ice cubes, and fill up with ginger beer. Decorate with a sprig of mint (optional).
Tips & Tricks
- Don't muddle too much or the mint can become a bit bitter - this is why I squeeze the limes a bit while adding them
- If you don't have muddler use the handle of a wooden spoon instead
- Make it sweeter and less spicy by using Ginger Ale instead of Ginger Beer
- Make it a cocktail by opting for an alcoholic ginger beer, or add a shot of your favorite spirit
Recipe FAQ
A mocktail is just a cocktail without the alcohol - hence a "mock" (fake) cocktail.
Ginger Beer is brewed and fermented, like a beer, while Ginger Ale is carbonated water with ginger flavor - like a soda. This shows in the taste - Ginger Beer is spicier and less sweet, while Ginger Ale tastes more like a ginger-flavored soda.
While Ginger Ale is always non-alcoholic, Ginger Beer can be found with and without alcohol.
Yes! Either opt for an alcoholic ginger beer or add a shot of your favorite spirit - vodka, rum and bourbon will all be delicious additions to this recipe.
