What you need to make it
Ingredient notes & substitutions
- Thick slices of bread are what separate Texas Toast from regular garlic bread - but feel free to use thin slices if that's what you have.
- Butter - salted and unsalted both work, just taste the garlic butter before seasoning with salt and adjust the amount of salt accordingly
- Cooking oil is used to crisp up the bread, so it's both crispy and buttery. You can swap this for more butter if that's what you have.
How to make it
- Place softened butter and minced garlic in a small bowl
- Mash the garlic and mix with the butter
- Mix in cooking oil
- Add worcestershire sauce and mix well
- Taste test and season with salt as needed
- Mix well and taste test to make sure the seasoning is just right for you
- Cover the bread with garlic butter on both sides, then place the bread in a preheated air fryer basket
- Air fry for 3 minutes at 390°F (200°C), flip the bread, then air for 3 minutes more. They are done when they're golden brown and crispy at the edges. Serve immediately!
Tips & tricks
- Mix butter and cooking oil for the ultimate crispy and buttery end result
- Taste test the garlic butter before adding salt, and after - depending on what butter you use (and you tastebuds!) the amount of salt needed will vary
- Preheat the air fryer for best results
- Cook in a single layer - you definitely do not want any overlap for this recipe!
- For extra crispy Texas Toast air fry the bread first for 1 minute per side, then add the garlic butter and air fry for the time stated in the recipe card
- Add cheese for an extra indulgent Texas Cheese Toast - add it after flipping the bread and cook until melted
- Cooking time can vary with your air fryer
- Best served freshly air fried - I would not recommend storing leftovers
- Prep ahead by making the garlic butter ahead of time, storing in the fridge, and then adding to the bread just before air frying. You can do this days before making it, but you might want to use less garlic as the garlic flavor will deepen as it sits.
- Prep ahead even more by covering the bread with garlic butter, and then refrigerating (covered) for up to 1 day before air frying
