What you need to make them
Ingredient notes & substitutions
- Frozen sweet potato fries: I used a thick kind of sweet potato fries - a thinner kind will cook quicker. Start with 4 + 4 minutes and add more time if needed.
- Some good brands to try are Alexia sweet potato fries, Ore Ida sweet potato fries, Whole Food 360 sweet potato fries and Trader Joe's sweet potato fries.
- Olive oil can be swapped for a different type of vegetable oil, or you can use cooking spray. Oil can also be skipped, but helps the fries get really crispy and a nice color.
- Salt might not be necessary if you're using already seasoned fries - please check the bag before adding the salt!
How to make them
- Place sweet potato fries in a bowl or on a plate
- Pour over olive oil
- Add salt, then mix and make sure to spread the oil and salt as evenly as possible all over the fries
- Place the fries in a preheated air fryer basket
- Air fry for 7 minutes at 400°F (200°C), then shake the basket to turn the fries
- Air fry for 7 more minutes at 400°F (200°C), then serve immediately!
Tips & tricks
- Preheat your air fryer to shorten the cook time - if you're not preheating it you might need more than 14 minutes
- Don't defrost the fries - cook them straight from frozen
- You can add other seasonings than salt - for example paprika powder, ground cinnamon or chili powder
- Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket - cook in a single layer for the crispiest fries, but a little overlap is fine
- Cooking time can vary depending on which air fryer you use and which brands of sweet potato fries
- Shake the fries halfway for an even cook
- Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days - but keep in mind they are best eaten just after frying
- Reheat leftover sweet potato fries by air frying for 5 minutes at 300°F (150°C), shaking once halfway
- Use leftovers to make a leftover french fries casserole

Air fry Alexia sweet potato fries for 14 minutes at 400°F (200°C), shaking them once halfway.
There are three secrets to really crispy sweet potato fries in the air fryer. First, use olive oil or another vegetable oil. Second, preheat your air fryer. And third, don't overcrowd your air fryer basket - cook the fries in one layer with no or just a little bit of overlap.
I like to season sweet potato fries with just a little bit of salt and olive oil, but you can add other seasonings as well such as garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika powder or even cinnamon. I recommend seasoning them before cooking, for best results. If you're cooking them without oil, then add seasoning after cooking.
