It's often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And whether you believe that or not, it sure can set the tone for the rest of the day! So why not make it a bit more interesting than basic oatmeal, toast, or scrambled eggs? We know others are doing just that! Here are 12 foods that prove the concept of breakfast foods is a social construct, all as described by foodies sharing their favorite breakfasts in a popular online forum.
Tacos
One foodie likes the taco culture in Mexico, "In Mexico there are a lot of tacos for breakfast, and for lunch, and for dinner... Etc. We can eat tacos all day.” Tacos in the morning, tacos in the evening, tacos at supper time. I would not mind this one bit!
Mac and Cheese
Another popular dish among forum users is leftover mac and cheese. Like many other of our favorite comfort foods, thisone also tastes even better after a day in the fridge!
Pizza
We’ve all had leftover takeaway for breakfast and that mostly consists of pizza. As this user points out, “I would say cold pizza. But I think that's pretty much been normalized as breakfast food by now.” I sure love me some leftover calzone for breakfast, always have, always will!
Anything with Egg
Another user replied with, “I just put a fried egg on random stuff. Chicken Chow Mein? Boom, egg on and its breakfast. Burger? Boom. Fries? Boom. Pizza? Believe it or not, boom.” Empty plate? Boom. It’s breakfast now!
Spaghetti
This user justified their love for Italian food by saying, “I feel like it’s mostly a stigma anyway. I get that some people don’t have huge appetites in the morning but if you can crush a pile of bacon, eggs and toast, then what difference is a god damn plate of spaghetti?” This person clearly loves spaghetti. And we don’t blame them. It’s impastable not to… Ba Dum Tss.
Cake
One person simply replied to a forum thread with “cake.” And we hear them loud and clear. For those of you who don’t feel as bold as this person to admit that you eat cake for breakfast, you can just refer to it as a “breakfast muffin.”
Potato Bread
One user replied to the thread with, “in Ireland it's a normal part of a fry up but no one I know in the UK understands why we have Potato Bread with ours.” These are otherwise known as farls and make a great substitute for toast or hashbrowns. Yum, now I'm hungry!
Biryani
One hungry user commented that they eat Biryani for breakfast. Another user jokingly replied that, “I'd fall right back to sleep after eating if I had that for breakfast!” Well, that probably says more about his level of sleep deprivation than about biryani!
Pho
As we learned from an earlier Mexican foodie, there are different breakfast traditions depending on where you are in the world. One East Asian similarly mentions enjoying pho for breakfast. Plus, it’s a great hangover cure!
Chilli
This user spices up their breakfast with chili. They explained that, “it's hearty enough to keep me full till lunch. It's vegetables for breakfast. It's better leftover anyway.” We've also learned now that if you just add an egg to it as well, no one can ever say it's not breakfast.
7-11 nachos with two Monsters
One forum user jokingly explained their friend's unusual breakfast combination: "I worked with a girl whose breakfast was 7-11 nachos, 2 monsters and 3 cigarettes. Monster, smoke, nachos, smoke, monster, smoke. This was daily at 7am." Well, to each their own, I guess?
