- Sea salt flakes can be swapped for other types of salt - but then use less
- Olive oil can be swapped for another type of cooking oil
- Worcestershire sauce is optional.
How to Make It
- Air fry frozen steak for 4 minutes to thaw.
- Combine the seasonings and olive oil and coat the steak
- Air fry until done, and check doneness with a meat thermometer
- Rest wrapped in foil for at least 5 minutes
Expert Tips
- Don't defrost the steak; cook it straight from frozen. If you have a fresh or thawed steak, follow this Air Fryer Rib Eye recipe instead.
- I recommend salting after cooking as the steak ca easily become too salty when seasoned before.
- Cook in one layer if making multiple steaks. If they are stuck together, you can air fry to thaw first, and then separate them.
- Cook time will vary with the size of your steak, and your air fryer
- Use a meat thermometer to make sure you cook it just right
- Allow the steak to rest for at least 5 minutes, to trap the moisture inside and allow for a slow rise to your target temperature.
- If you want to make air fryer steak tips with frozen steak, thaw just until you can cut through the steak, then cook it
Storing, Freezing & Reheating
Storing: Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days
Freezing: Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months in an air tight container.
Reheating: Reheat steak in your air fryer for best results. You can also cut it into pieces and pan-sear it.
Cooking times & internal temperatures
I recommend using a meat thermometer and aiming for the set points below. The times stated are approximate and for a ¾ inch thick steak.
Cook time | Rest from | |
Rare | 10 min | 118°F / 46°C |
Medium-rare | 11-12 min | 125°F / 52°C |
Medium | 12-13 min | 135°F / 58°C |
Medium-well | 14-15 min | 145°F / 63°C |
Well done | 16-18 min | 150°F / 66°C |
I recommend you start with 4 + 4 minutes unless you are cooking a much thinner steak, in which case you can start with 2+2 or 3+3 minutes. Then add 1-2 minutes at a time, and always flip it when adding more time.
