What you need to make them
Ingredient notes
- Frozen waffle fries - I use a kind that already has seasoning. Any brand will work, Alexia and Ore-Ida are two good choices.
- Oil can be skipped, but helps give the waffle fries the best crunch & color. Use olive oil or canola oil, another neutral oil, or cooking spray.
- Salt can be added, especially if you don't use pre-seasoned waffle fries. ¼ teaspoon is perfect for 2 servings. If using oil, season the fries before cooking. If skipping the oil, season them after.
Do these directions work for frozen sweet potato waffle fries?
Yes, these directions work for sweet potato waffle fries as well, with the same time and temperature.
How to make them
- Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) and pour the oil over the waffle fries. Mix them a bit so they get evenly coated.
- Place the fries in the preheated basket and air fry 12 minutes at 390°F (200°C), shaking the basket once halfway
- When done, the waffle fries should be golden, crispy at the edges, and soft inside
Tips & tricks
- Preheat the air fryer for best results
- Don't defrost, cook the fries straight from frozen
- Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket - it's fine to have more than one layer, but make sure there is still room for the hot air to circulate.
- For really crispy air fryer waffle fries, cook them in a single layer
- Shake the waffle fries around halfway for an even cook
- Cooking time can vary with different air fryers and brands of fries - just use more or less time as needed. If you're unsure of the timing, start with 10 minutes and work your way up.
- Store any leftover waffle fries in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days - but I recommend not air frying more than you will finish
- Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes, until heated through
