I quit drinking a few years ago and have been on a mocktail kick ever since. This Ginger Beer Mocktail is one of the easiest, most delicious, non-alhocolic drinks I've come up with. It's got all the best flavors from a Moscow Mule, with an added touch of mint. And no alcohol, of course!
Just mix & serve, and have a refreshing drink in no time!
Why You Will Love This Recipe
- It's quick and done in just 2 minutes
- It's easy - just muddle mint & lime, and top up with ginger beer!
- Tasty & refreshing with yummy lime & mint flavors complemented by a sweet & spicy kick from the ginger beer
- It's a grown-up drink - not too sweet, and with a distinct bite
- Only common ingredients - nothing fancy, just mint, lime and ginger beer
- No fancy equipment needed - a muddle is great, but if you don't have one, just use the handle of a wooden spoon instead
Ingredient Notes
- Fresh mint: Only use the leaves, the stem can be a bit bitter.
- Lime: You need to use real lime here, not bottled juice.
- Ginger beer: You can also use ginger ale, which makes it a bit sweeter and less spicy.
What's The Difference Between Ginger Beer And Ginger Ale?
Ginger beer is brewed and fermented like regular beer. Ginger ale is just carbonated water with ginger flavor, just like a soda. This shows in the taste - ginger beer is spicier and less sweet, with a deeper ginger taste, while ginger ale tastes like the ginger-flavored soda it is.
Ginger ale is always non-alcoholic, but ginger beer can be found both with and without alcohol.
How To Make This Recipe
- Place mint leaves and lime wedges in a glass
- Use a muddler to get the juice out of the limes and the flavor out of the mint
- Add ice cubes, fill up with ginger beer, and decorate as you like!
Expert Tips
- Squeeze the limes before adding them to the glass, so you get a lot of lime juice without muddling too much
- Don't muddle too much or the mint can become a bit bitter.
- If you don't have muddler use the handle of a wooden spoon instead
- Change up the garnishes. I like it with a spicy and/or salty rim as well, and you can also decorate it with a slice of ginger.
- Prep ahead by muddling lime & mint in glasses ahead of time, then add ice cubes and ginger beer just before serving. Store the glasses in the fridge if you want to prep it more than an hour in advance.
