Frozen sausages are great to have in the freezer for whenever the mood strikes. This air fryer recipe makes it easy to cook up those frozen sausages quickly, without thawing them ahead of time!
I serve my air fryer sausage as a main dish with fries or mashed potatoes (instant mashed potatoes even, for the easiest meal) and a side of ketchup or barbecue sauce. Or I make a Swedish "flat bread roll" ("tunnbrödsrulle") where flat bread is rolled around sausages, mashed potatoes, salad and some ketchup.

What you need to make them
Ingredient notes
- Frozen sausages - this is all you need! Thick, thin, homemade or store bought - beef or pork sausages, turkey or chicken sausage, bratwurst, breakfast sausages, Italian sausage, kielbasa, merquez, or any other kind.
How to make them
- Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) (thin sausages) or 360°F (180°C) (thick sausages), then place the frozen sausages in the air fryer basket
- Air fry for 12-14 minutes, and flip them halfway. Check to make sure they are cooked through (the internal temperature should be at least 165°F (74°C)), and enjoy!
Tips & tricks
- Preheat the air fryer for best results
- Don't defrost the sausages, cook them straight from frozen
- Add some water to the bottom of the air fryer basket if your air fryer is prone to producing a lot of smoke, or if you start to see a lot of smoke coming out
- Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket - make sure you have some air left between the sausages
- If your sausages are stuck together air fry them together for 2-3 minutes, then separate them and continue cooking
- Turn the sausages halfway for an even cook
- Use a meat thermometer to make sure they are done. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Adjust temperature depending on the thickness of the sausages to make sure they are cooked through but not burnt
- Adjust cook time depending on the size of the sausages as sausages come in all sizes
- Cook time can vary with different air fryers
- Store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days
Recipe FAQ
Yes, it's actually a great idea! Just make sure they cook all the way through without burning.
Nope, no need - it's better to air fry them from frozen.
No, it's better not to! If you pierce the skin you risk losing moisture and the sausages won't come out as juicy-
Cook time for frozen sausages depends on how you cook them as well as the size and thickness of the sausages.
In the oven, sausages will cook in 15-20 minutes.
In the air fryer, sausages will cook in 12-14 minutes.
In a frying pan or on the grill they will take anywhere from 20 minutes - I do not recommend this option as there's a large risk of burning them.
Very large/thick and very small/thin sausages can require more or less time.
