How to Reheat Chicken Without Drying It Out
There are four steps to making sure your reheated chicken comes out juicy and tender, instead of dry and tough.
First, slice larger pieces, so they reheat quicker and more evenly. This means less moisture is lost and it's still nice and hot throughout.
Second, use your air fryer. The circulating hot air means the chicken heats up quickly and evenly.
Third, add a little bit of oil. This helps add a bit more moisture to the chicken, so it's less likely to dry out.
Fourth, don't heat it too long. You want it to be thoroughly heated to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C), but not more than that.
Expert Tips
- Slice big pieces of chicken before air frying, so they reheat quicker and more evenly. This means they stay juicier!
- Add a little bit of oil to avoid the chicken drying out
- Reheat in a single layer for best results
- Only reheat as much as you will finish - you don't want to reheat the chicken multiple times
- Always reheat leftovers to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety. Use a meat thermometer to be sure.
- Cook time will vary with your specific air fryer, and how big your chicken pieces are. Start with 2 minutes for small pieces and slices, and 4 minutes for larger pieces. Check if heated through, and add more time as needed.
- Want to add seasoning? Do it after brushing with oil, but before air frying.
