I love a good Friday night takeout pizza. But I never finish it - even after my poodle gets the crust. So I end up with leftovers. And while I love my leftover pizza (leftover calzone might be my #1 favorite breakfast food), I always struggled to reheat it well, and often ended up eating cold pizza slices instead.
It was either wait a long time while it was in the oven, or reheat it quickly in the microwave, and end up with a soggy crust. But then I got my first air fryer, and since then, there's no other method I'd ever use for reheating leftover pizza (or leftover french fries, sweet potato fries or wings, for that matter).
It crisps up leftovers oh so quickly, so I can enjoy my pizza just as I did on the first day.
Why you will love this recipe
- It's so easy - you just slice the pizza it and pop it in the air fryer. Done!
- It's so quick - 2 minutes is all it takes to heat up thin-crust pizza, 3-5 minutes for thicker crust or deep dish pizza
- Super crispy crust even the day after
- Perfectly melted cheese for indulgent taste
- No mess at all - it's all contained in the air fryer, for super easy cleanup
What you need to make it
Ingredient notes & substitutions
- You can use this recipe for almost any type of pizza, even leftover frozen pizza and puff pastry pizza
- If the pizza has toppings that were added at the end (like arugula or prosciutto), it's best to remove them before reheating. You can reheat with them on top, but they will of course be cooked, which was not the point.
- Add some extra toppings for an even tastier pizza. I love adding shaved parmesan cheese, fresh arugula and sea salt flakes after reheating my pizza.
How to Reheat Pizza in the Air Fryer
To reheat pizza in your air fryer, all you need to do is preheat the air fryer, and then add in the leftover pizza slices. You can place them close together; just make sure they are not overlapping, or they will end up stuck together.
Air fry 2-5 minutes, depending on how thick the pizza is, and you're ready to eat!
Tips & tricks
- Remove "raw" toppings before air frying for best results
- Add extra toppings for even better leftover pizza - before or after cooking
- Pre-heating is optional - I do it if I have time, otherwise skip it
- Reheat in a single layer so they don't stick together
- Don't fill the entire basket, make sure there is some room around the slices to allow for good air flow
- If you need to air fry more than will fit, do it in batches
- Do not reheat more than you will finish - it will not be good if you store and reheat it once again
- Cook time can vary with your air fryer - the first time you're reheating pizza in your air fryer it's a good idea to check it halfway, and if the pizza starts to brown too much, you can turn the heat down 20 degrees.
Recipe FAQ
I find it much better to reheat pizza in the air fryer than on the stove, as it turns out much crispier. It's also easier, as you don't have as much to clean up, and don't need to keep as close an eye on it
No! There's already enough fat in your pizza, so there's very little risk of it turning dry.
